We’re getting closer to Election Day and some people are invested – and have invested – more than others.
Do you think the rule is one man, one vote? Think again. Some voters are more equal than others because they are richer than others. Much richer.
In this election cycle, billionaires have flexed their muscles more than ever before. According to a new report from Americans for Tax Fairness, 150 billionaire families have spent a total of $1.9 billion (1.75 billion euros) this cycle supporting presidential and congressional candidates, up 58% from four years ago.
About 570 million dollars (525 million euros) went to Donald Trump’s campaign, and 130 million dollars (119.7 million euros) to Kamala Harris. Bill Gates and Michael Bloomberg each donated $50 million (€46 million) to Harris.
Of course, no individual has donated more money than Elon Musk, who has become an aggressive Trump surrogate, pouring at least $118 million (108.7 million euros) into a pro-Trump Super PAC.
Who among these billionaires will see a return on their investment, and who will have wasted a fortune? We’ll see next week.
